Rituals

Moments you may like to include

Alongside the words, many couples like to include a small ritual that makes the ceremony their own. Here are three — twin flame lighting, hand fasting photographed at Tia and Sunny’s ceremony, and sand blending from Jai and Hark’s day — and there are many more we can talk through together.

Two brides in white dresses and veils leaning in together to light a single unity candle with taper candles

Twin flame lighting

Two flames become one — a quiet, visible sign of two lives being joined.

A celebrant binding the clasped hands of a bride and a groom in a scarlet ceremonial tunic with pale ribbon

Hand fasting

Tia & Sunny

Hands bound with ribbon — the old custom behind the phrase “tying the knot”.

Four small jars of pale sand tied with sheer white fabric, a larger glass jar and a white pillar candle ringed with baby's breath, arranged on an embroidered crimson cloth outdoors

Sand blending

Jai & Hark

Colours poured together into one glass — each keeping its own, yet forming something new.

The hand fasting and sand blending photographs are from Tia and Sunny’s and Jai and Hark’s own ceremonies. The twin flame picture shows the ritual itself rather than a ceremony I have led — photographs from my own ceremonies will join this page as they come.
